The debut EP from South Korean boy band BoyNextDoor, 2023’s Why… showcases the group’s breezy, upbeat style of pop. Produced by the group’s KOZ label owner Zico, the album follows the group’s single album Who! and hits many of the hip-hop and electronic dance elements that K-pop is known for, but with broader stylistic and instrumental palettes. Cuts like the opening “But I Like You” and “Serenade” feature crisply strummed acoustic guitars, keyboards, and lively analog drumbeats, all of which evoke an exuberant blend of early-2000s pop-punk crossed with the genre-defying pop savvy of bands like the 1975.
